These patients have a slow tempo of growth and maturation, and all aspects of their physical development are delayed. They may be considered to have a functional defect of the GnRH pulse generator. In such children adrenarche is characteristically late, as is gonadarche. This contrasts with patients with isolated gonadotrophin deficiency, in whom adrenarche usually occurs at a normal age.
